Donaghmore Ashbourne Ladies Lose Out in Cracker

Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-08
Royal Gaels 1-08

Date: Sunday 17th July

Donaghmore Ashbourne hosted Royal Gaels on Sunday evening in what turned out to be a cracker of a game. Both sides were unbeaten but with Royal Gaels having won previous games by massive scores the Moors were unsure what to expect.
The game ebbed and flowed with Donaghmore matching their opponents score for score. The Don/Ash defence was superb with Kate Heffernan giving a super performance.  Shauna Hutton, Mary Kate Benville, Ciara Menton all performed to the top of their game and gave keeper Judy Bobbett a solid wall of defence. This showed as the visitors were kept to 4 scores in the 1st half.
Abbie Timmons (0-4) pointed first for the Moors and gave the visitors all kinds of problems her pace, solo runs and distribution of the ball were excellent. Becky Deery ably assisted in the scoring set up. Sinead Power (0-1) pointed for Donaghmore. Aoibhin Cleary (0-2) put in solid work for the Moors.

Half time score was 0-6 to 1-03
The Moors Ladies started the 2nd half upbeat and with a never say die attitude. The midfield pairing of Eva McNeilis and Maire O’Shaughnessy distributed the ball well to the forwards.
Scoring was scarce on both sides in the last 30 mins. The Don/Ash forwards constantly striving to find the net while the Don/Ash backs were on top form keeping the visitors at bay. Niamh O’Sullivan showed well for the visitors. Abbie Timmons and Riain O’Keeffe (0-1) pointed in the 2nd half.
The Moors lost this game by 1 goal. Yes, they were disappointed but not downbeat, they have learned a lot about their strength of character and team mates.
Management of Sean, Una and Mary will surely be happy with the performance of their charges this evening.
