The 5-7 year olds gain the knowledge of the basic skills of Gaelic football; ABCs (Agility, Balance, and Coordination) RJTs (Running, Jumping, and Throwing) as well as Catching and Kicking. This group also participate in mini-leagues “Street Leagues” during May / June. As they get older, they become involved in underage teams ranging from Under 8’s to Minor (Under 18’s). After that, they progress to Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels with the club.
A player’s pathway commences with the child training and participating in Gaelic games at the age of 5 and develop their skill set through the age levels until he is representing Donaghmore Ashbourne and maybe even Meath at senior level. We have two current examples of this in Bryan Menton and Andrew Tormey.
Our aim is to ensure that each child reaches their full potential. This requires a lot of commitment on behalf of the player as well as team mentors and coaches. Coaches are encouraged to participate in courses / workshop to further develop their skills and enable them to pass these skills on to players.
