Donaghmore /Ashbourne 1 – 10
St. Patrick’s 1 – 08
Donaghmore/Ashbourne retained their B League Div 1 title with a hard fought two point win over St Patrick’s at Skryne on Friday evening. David Carey opened the scoring for Don/Ash with a point in the first minute, however after that scores were hard to come by. Five minutes before half time St. Pat’s led four points to three, but then a David Carey goal and a point each from John Broderick gave Don/Ash a half time lead of 1 – 5 to 0 – 3. Pointed frees by Sam Benville and goalkeeper Andy Colgan accounting for Don/Ash’s other scores.
St Pats scored the first two points of the second half and these were cancelled out by two from Sam Benville for Don/Ash, Substitute Leo Reilly scored a point in response to a similar effort from St Pats before a goal for the East Meath side left only the minimum between the sides. The impressive Jack Giles got forward from corner back to score a fine point which was then quickly cancelled by a St Pats score at the other end. A pointed free by Sam Benville after three minutes of injury time was the final score of the game.
After the game County Board official Greg Twomey from the Donaghmore/Ashbourne Club presented the Peter Moore Cup to the winning captain Eric Callaghan.
