Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 2nd team continued their good run in the Division 1B league with a good 1-12 to 0-05 win over Wolfe Tones in Ashbourne on Monday night The victory almost ensures that Donaghmore Ashbourne will now play in both the Division 1A and 1B league finals as they sit on top of the league with one game remaining.

The home side dominated the opening quarter in terms of possession but only managed to lead by 0-03 to 0-00 with points form Tony Morgan on 4 minutes, Eric Callaghan on 10 mintues and Sam Benville on 12 minutes. In truth they should have been much further ahead but were guilty of a number of wides. The Kilberry men reduced the deficit to a single point with two  quick scores on  17minutes from play and 18 minutes from a free. The sides traded scores in the later part of the half with Tony Morgan pointing on 20 minutes while the Tones replied on 23 minutes. David Carey registered Donaghmore Ashbourne’s final score of the half with a well taken point on 24 minutes only to see the visitor reply with a free a minute later.

The second half saw the home side make better use of their possession as they started to pull away from their visitors. Substitute Dylan Brady raised the white flag on 35 minutes after a god run through the Tones defence. Eric Callaghan put a bit of light between the teams on 41 minutes when he finished off a good team move with a low shot to the corner of the net. The move stated in the full back line when Daithi Murtagh made a good tackle and turn over.

The home side extended the lead with further points from Brady on 42 minutes, Morgan on 43 minutes and a Sam Benville free on 47 minutes. Wolfe Tones only score of the second period came on 49 minutes from a free.

Late points from Benville, a free on 53 minutes, Jack Giles on 55 minutes and Callaghan on 60 minutes closed out the game for the home team as they placed one foot in the Division 1B  league final.
