Venue: Skryne

Half Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-03 Trim 0-04
Donaghmore Ashbourne’s third string side lost their opening Junior B championship game to Trim’s second team in Skryne on Tuesday evening. The heritage town team’s dominance in terms of physical size and strength was the difference between the teams as the younger Donaghmore Ashbourne side struggled in this department in many areas throughout the game. However the Donaghmore Ashbourne team could not be faulted for effort and to their credit they kept playing right to the end.
Trim opened the scoring with points on 2 and 4 minutes before Stephen Condon replied for Donaghmore Ashbourne on 8 minutes. Another brace of points from Trim were registered on 19 and 24 minutes and they should have been further ahead in this period was in not for some ward way shooting.
Two late points at the end of the first half from Rossa O Donnell and Evan Rogers flattered Donaghmore Ashbourne as they had weathered the Trim storm and were only trailing by 0-04 to 0-03 at the interval.
Trim started the second half in similar fashion as the opening period with a brace of points on 31 and 32 minutes to move 3 ahead. Stephen Condon did reply for Donaghmore Ashbourne on 29 minutes with a point but the Trim reply was instant with another point within a minute.
As Donaghmore Ashbourne tried to chase the game they were caught with a counter attack and Trim exposed the space in defence and found the back of the Donaghmore Ashbourne net on 42 minutes to move 6 points ahead.
To their credit Donaghmore Ashbourne never gave up and Condon registered another point on 49 minutes. Conor Mc Govern did have an opportunity to close the gap even further on 51 minutes but although he broke through the Trim defence his drive went narrowly over the bar for a point.
Trim kept the scoreboard ticking over with another point on 52 minutes and although Condon converted a free on 59 minutes it was Trim who recorded the final score of the game with a point in injury time.
Overall it was a very entertaining game and credit to both sides for giving their all. Donaghmore Ashbourne can be complemented for playing to the final whistle while this Trim side will be a tough test for any team in the Junior B championship.
