Junior D Championship Round 1

Drumbaragh v Donaghmore Ashbourne

14th April 2019 in Drumbaragh

Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 4th team made the trip to Drumbaragh for their first-round match on a cold, blustery but dry day. Drumbaragh scored 1-5 in the first half which was wind assisted and credit should go to the Donaghmore Ashbourne back six in containing the score line against the wind. Unfortunately, their own scoring chances were few and far between and were disappointed to go in at half time 1-5 to no score.

The second half was a bit better as Donaghmore Ashbourne attempted to reel in the score line. Stephen Breslin pointed a 45 and Eoin Caffrey converted two frees but play was slowed down and as time ticked by chance after chance got away. Cormac McGahan finished a point from play after good work from Eoin Caffrey to set him up. As the visitors pressed the home team all the way to the end Drumbaragh broke away and finished a move pointing their only score of the second half to finish the game off 1-06 to 0-4.

Donaghmore Ashbourne controlled a lot of the play for the game but failed to make their chances count but were encouraged by the discipline shown and the overall work rate.
