Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 4th team travelled to Kells to take on Gaeil Colmcille in this Division 5 B League match. Gaeil Colmcille notched the first point but good follow up work from Joe Merry earned his team a goal when he chased in after a high ball eluded the keeper and was duly bundled into the net. Gaeil Colmcille hit back scoring a point from a free then James McKeown added a point after 8 mins. Donaghmore Ashbourne had plenty of possession but hit several wides and dropped short ball before Gaeil Colmcille scored an easy point and David Donnely responded with a fine score. Gaeil Colmcille hit back immediately with a well worked goal on 22 minutes. Stephen Breslin narrowed the gap with a free but Gaeil Colmcille responded with a point and then hit the back of the net after a mix up in the visitors defence. At half time Gaeil Colmcille led by 4, 2.04 to 1.03.
Donaghmore Ashbourne came out in the second half and narrowed the gap with a well taken point by James McKeown. Gaeil Colmcille responded with 2 points inside 3 minutes and then Donaghmore Ashbourne got the next 4 scores, 3 points from McKeown, Matt Crumlish and Stephen Breslin on 46th , 48th and 49th minutes. David Donnelly persevered and was rewarded with a goal at the end of sustained pressure on the home defence on 55 minutes gone, putting the visitors a point up. Gaeil Colmcille again responded with a well taken goal and then 2 more points on the break. Matt Crumlish brought the difference back to 3 points with a minute remaining but Kells finished out the game with a breakaway point to take the game by 4 points.
An entertaining game but Donaghmore Ashbourne will rue missed chances in the first half.
