Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 3rd team continued their good run in the B league Reserve Division with a comprehensive away win over Summerhill on Wednesday evening. The home side who were only able to field 13 players and although they took an early lead struggled with the visitor’s fitness in particular in the second half when a number of young substitutes were introduced.

Colin Sullivan opened the scoring for Donaghmore Ashbourne with a point on 6 minutes but the home side were level with a point from play on 8 minutes. The visitors saw a number of early chances put wide and looked to pay the price at the end of the opening quarter when Summerhill took the lead when they fired low to the net on 14 minutes. Donaghmore Ashbourne didn’t panic and although hit another couple of wides Colin Sullivan raised the green flag on 20 minutes when he lobbed the advancing keeper after a good ball from Lorcan Nolan. Donaghmore Ashbourne regained the lead with points from Sullivan on 24 minutes and a Joey Long goal effort that when narrowly over the bar for a point on 25 minutes. Nolan finished off a good team move on 29 minutes as he rounded the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net. Joey Long finished the opening half scoring with a point just before the interval.

Although the home side opened the second half scoring with a point on 31 minutes it was Donaghmore Ashbourne with their higher fitness level and youth being sprung from the bench that dominated the half and go on a scoring spree. Eoin Caffrey extend the lead with a good solo goal on 32 minutes and Leo Reilly hit his first point of the evening on 34 minutes. The home side did reply with a free on 37 minutes but three further points from Reilly and a Donagh O Donnell goal late in the third quarter ended the game as a contest. Summerhill as expected never gave up and were rewarded with their second goal on 51 minutes. The side traded scores again with Reilly pointing for the visitors on 52 minutes and the home side replying a minute later. Cian Wall pointed on 54 minutes with Reilly again on 56 minutes before the  home sides final score on the evening a minute later. The closing minutes saw goals from Conor Heffernan, Leo Reilly and Shane Rea with points coming from Niall Kavanagh and O’Donnell.
